The Hall of Presidents
Monday Feb 15, 2016
Monday Feb 15, 2016
In honor of President’s Day, take an adventure into the Hall of Presidents! The Hall of Presidents is an attraction located in Liberty Square at the Magic Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort. The attraction is a multi-media presentation and stage show featuring Audio-Animatronic figures of all 43 individual U.S. Presidents. It opened on October 1, 1971, along with the rest of the Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World. It is housed in a building that resembles Philadelphia's Independence Hall. Walt Disney had originally wanted an attraction similar to the "Hall of Presidents" called One Nation Under God at Disneyland Park at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, USA. After Disneyland had become a huge success, Disney proposed an extension of Main Street, U.S.A. called Liberty Street at Edison Square. Disney originally wanted wax figures of all the U.S. Presidents, and later decided to try to make them animated figures, but the technology that he wanted for this attraction did not exist or fully meet his desire. Disney decided to collaborate with his fellow Imagineers of WED Enterprises to try to make the first Audio-Animatronic figure in a human form. It would be one of Disney's heroes: Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States.
The show begins with a film presentation of the history of the United States of America. It shows that the American way was forged through conflict and many long years of struggle. The main idea of the film is that the United States is not free from improvements. It is certain changes that prove necessary over the years. The film also celebrates the liberties of the American people, the United States Constitution, and the progress of America in its early years. With the help of paintings from the era, the Philadelphia Convention is reenacted.
The film then segues to the time of Abraham Lincoln, when secession was a real threat. These paintings and vocal performances are similar, if not identical, to the same segment in the "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" presentation. The American Civil War portion of the presentation is based on the "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" presentation, including a nearly identical script, although, to fit the much bigger screen of the theater, rather than the much smaller one at Disneyland, new paintings were required to fill the screen. The Constitution survived the conflict, making America a truly unified nation.
A huge era of progress occurred after the war. All the while, the Constitution remained the tent pole of the country. The film then turns toward the future, saying that the leaders of tomorrow have to be committed to the Constitution and its principles, if the country is to survive. A Saturn V rocket takes off, and the screens then lift up, and the U.S. Presidents take center stage. After the curtain lifts, all (then) 36 presidents are called, in chronological order. (At the time the attraction opened in 1971, the roll call ended with Richard M. Nixon. Over time, each newly elected President would have an Audio-Animatronic version of himself added to the show in their likeness.)
Each one responds to their name with a nod, wave, or other sign of acknowledgment. During the presentation, the Presidents fidget, talk to each other, and look around; all the while making the illusion seem quite real. Abraham Lincoln then stands and takes center stage. His speech is remarkably similar to the speech he gave in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln". After his speech, the show concludes with a rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," (the same rendition used in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln"). However, in 2009, the Battle Hymn of the Republic was replaced with America the Beautiful, but it reverted to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" in 2011.

Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular
Wednesday Feb 10, 2016
Wednesday Feb 10, 2016
Thank you for listening to the number one podcast that entertains that space between your ears! Our normal Thursday episode will publish tomorrow, Friday February 12th. In the meantime please enjoy a pre-recording of Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular.
Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular was a musical show with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, at Disney California Adventure. Inspired by Disney's 1992 animated film, the show premiered on January 16, 2003, and played inside the Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Land. The venue is located next to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
In September 2015, it was announced that the show's final day of operation would be January 10, 2016. The show was then closed on January 11, to be replaced by a Frozen-inspired musical stage show. The 45 minute production took place in the 2,000 seat Hyperion Theater, located at the end of Hollywood Blvd.
The production was a Broadway-type show. Many of the classic scenes and songs from the movie were re-created on stage and some of the action spilled out into the aisles, like Prince Ali's arrival in Agrabah on elephant back. Alan Menken composed and wrote lyrics for a new song for the production, called To Be Free. While much of the show was scripted, the dialogue of the Genie constantly changed to reflect current events in popular culture and the news. The music was orchestrated and arranged by Timothy Williams (composer) and produced by Bruce Healey, and Audio By The Bay (Paul Freeman, Bob Wackerman).
In spring 2010 it was initially announced that Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular would close and be replaced by Toy Story: The Musical, similar to the version on the Disney Cruise Line. However, later that year it announced that the plans were cancelled and that the Aladdin musical would remain for the time being. In September 2015 it was announced that the show's final day of operation would be January 10, 2016. The show was then closed on January 11, to be replaced by a Frozen-inspired musical stage show.

Disney's Miracle Man
Monday Feb 08, 2016
Monday Feb 08, 2016
By the mid-1980s, the fabled animation studios of Walt Disney had fallen on hard times. The artists were polarized between newcomers hungry to innovate and old timers not yet ready to relinquish control. These conditions produced a series of box-office flops and pessimistic forecasts: maybe the best days of animation were over. Maybe the public didn't care. Only a miracle or a magic spell could produce a happy ending. A miracle man named Howard Ashman regained Disney’s magic with a staggering output of musical hits - "Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Aladdin." This is a short tribute to the man that changed the face of Disney animation as we know it today. Listen to all the wonderful raw audio of original ideas and songs pitched during the animation process. Howard’s time at the Disney studios has been called by animators as “Waking Sleeping Beauty.”
